Been away for a bit, but due to time constraints of the move and now work. Yep - a man of work once more, this time for myself and my (jointly owned) business.

I'm glad DS is getting treated for his illness, what is wrong with him? I hope he gets better soon.

As it turns out, he has strep throat.

I was hopping mad, after being treated like a nosy, overwrought parent before when I told them I didn't trust the "quick test" for strep.

My older son apparently had strep a lot but he never said a word, never complained, so he was never treated. Because of that he has seriously damaged kidneys :( I was not about to let that happen again...

Charlie - sounds like things are going quite smoothly for you there, glad to see you are busy ;)

My uncle was in hospital with TB (I think it was TB!) as a child (bearing in mind my mum is the youngest of ten, so this was YEARS ago). The doctors insisted that he'd had the 'new meds', despite my nan insisting otherwise. Eventually they took her to look at his chart, just to humour her. Turned out they hadn't given him the new meds. Her persistance probably saved his life (as it was he went in at the age of ten and came out at the age of fourteen, if I remember correctly).

My mum always used that story to illustrate why a mother should always trust her instincts and stay stubborn.

I'm glad things are going well now, Charlie.

I didn't know strep throat could damage the kidneys, Goddess, that is scary. I'm also glad you're persistent. It's strange it seems like at least around here doctors are more willing to throw antibiotics at you if they suspect a problem even if it isn't confirmed. I've literally walked into my doctor's office (old one in NH) and said "I think I have a sinus infection, and here's why." And they prescribed me antibiotics :oldlol: . My mother recently had what was probably strep throat, they gave her antibiotics before they even tested. Of course this overzealous prescribing of medication is also what's gotten me into a lot of problems, so I guess balance is a good thing.

I also hate how a lot of doctors think they can do no wrong. They should take advantage of the fact that their patients can talk to them and tell them what is wrong with them, rather than treating us like a computer that needs to be trouble-shooted or something.

I am still obsessing over my hair a bit :xBlush: and have been asking opinions and advice at a short hair community on livejournal. Most of them seem to think I should try to find another stylist and get my hair cut more like I wanted because the one I went to didn't listen to me very well. I've been playing around with different ways of brushing my hair to make the curls go differently and it is helping a bit, it looks a lot less weird but I still am not particularly happy with it. If I am still not pleased with it in a few days I may go for another cut, probably the shorter one that I posted last week. There are several hair salons right up the street from me, but I'm not sure how to tell which ones are "good." I don't want to end up getting it cut and having it be worse than the current one, heh.

I don't make nice but it keeps my family safe so....

Civet - Iyou should definitely get your hair redone if you aren't happy. I would take the pic with you and ask the stylist if they can (or will) do that for you. If they waffle, or want to modify it, say thanks but no thanks and go to another one.

Thanks for the advice, Goddess. It is starting to look better now, thanks in part to Aspen's advice about under-brushing I've been able to get the curls to look more like a normal wave than a bunch of flipping-outward ends everywhere. I also realized I can give myself more of a bang by combing more hair from the other side of my face, which improved it dramatically. So long as I can continue to manage it in this way I'll likely keep this cut for awhile, though maybe when it starts to get warmer I'll go for a shorter cut (and go to a different place than I went this time).

Last night I actually played D&D with my friends, the first time we just made up characters and didn't really play at all. It was pretty fun, though also a little tedious with all the dice-rolling. I think it will be even more fun when everyone gets the hang of things and is more relaxed to get into character, as it can be hard to get into character when you are trying to learn all the rules and figure out what you can actually do. One girl there is pretty experienced and it was entertaining to play with her because she got into character well and her character is pretty amusing to watch (her character was kind of like a jerky self-involved Robin Hood :oldlol: ).

It seems our snow due tonight/tomorrow has been downgraded to a rain event - I couldn't be happier ;)

My friend back mear Philly got almost 30 inches of snow, plus despite the snow being wet there are lots of tall drifts!

I finally got everything I need to do my taxes. There are so many things I need to do with that refund, I have nearly every penny accounted for!

DS is feeling somewhat better but still not eating well. He seems to have heartburn/acid reflux whenever he eats. We're treating with OTC for now. He is looking "thinnish" - his jeans are too big now, so although he's still above "correct" weight for his height he doesn't look good.

and we are expecting more snow this week.....

Nah- not entirely smoothly, but I am generally a quick learner. I think the analogy which applies here is the swimming swan - it looks graceful on the surface, but underneath there is a lot of frantic flapping and paddling going on

Last week sometime the ceiling fan in our master bedroom went out with a flash. At first we thought it was a light bulb, but actually the wiring in the fan went bad. I suppose we were lucky it didn't cause a fire!

It was a cheaper fan, but I loved it because it had remote control - so you could stay snuggled in bed and turn the light on or off and control the fan speed. Sweet ;)

We bought a replacement - this time we bought a Hunter brand, really nice. No remote though. Two days later, voila, it is up.

The problem has been that over the course of our 16 years together, DH has broken every lamp we ever owned. So aside from a small touchlamp nightlight, the fan provides all the light in the room. I've nearly broken my neck several times trying to get to the bathroom...

So pretty ;). Especially since I don't have to deal with it.

Oh, and CNN showed a guy in DC riding his bicycle through the snow
