So the next time I have a "panini" I should ask for a "panino" and REALLY confuse them?

I'm just saying...

Of course then there's Olive garden ::shudders::

Their latest incarnation is pansotti. When I grew up, pansotti was a triangle pasta, not a pot-sticker type thing.

I do love their salad ;). And occassionally they score a homerun with a soup. But I have to stay clear of the breadsticks, no self-control LOL

I accidentally read this as "So the next time I have a 'panini' I should ask for a 'piano'" and that REALLY confused ME :oldlol: .

At least if I asked for a piano they'd know what I was talking about!

Hello, I’m new here!

First name: John

Age: 20

Location: Illinois, USA

Hobbies and Interests: Psychology, Archaeology, American and World History, Applied Sciences, Science fiction, roleplaying, watching anime, reading manga, comic book collecting

Reason for being here: I thought it would be really nice to work with some people I can talk with psychology and other such concerns on my level. In many cases, people get intimidated when I want to discuss any sort of mental health sciences on any level beyond ‘when you’re depressed, you might feel sad.’ Please understand that I am not, in any way trying to sound arrogant. I have simply been suggested to visit this site on those grounds. I hope I haven’t turned anyone off already!

Date of diagnosis: I was diagnosed with my Autism Spectrum condition, Non-Verbal Learning Disability, three years ago. At that time I was also diagnosed with pantophobia. However, I have been grappling with other conditions such as hypochondria, severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, severe depression, and several forms of personality disorder.

Favorite subjects: History and Physics

Year/Grade: Junior year in college.

Favorite music: Classical, Jazz, Punk, Techno

Books: I have a large number of classics including Shakespeare, Doseteovsky, Tolstoy, Twain, and such. As I mentioned before I really like science fiction both the media type (Star Trek and Star Wars novels) as well as the tradition form with authors like Asimov and Niven. I also love both western Comics and Japanese Manga.

TV Shows: Does anything Star Trek count?

Movies: Ditto from above? =P

Magazines: Well, I have been reading through a large number of copies of ‘Fantasy and Science Fiction’ and ‘Isaac Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine’ issues, but they’re quite old and I bought them at a garage sale. I do read the magazine Shonen Jump however.

Comic books: I think I’ve touched on this, but my favorite American super hero would have to be Green Lantern, and I’m also a big fan of the Turok series. I always have a heart for old pulp fiction comics and stories. Anyone else read Anthro? =P As for manga I really like Bleach, FullMetal Alchemist, Naruto, Oh, My Goddess, etc. I also like to read both genres from the library. Hey, but I love Dilbert and Garfield from the newspapers as well!

Favorite Foods: Ugh, I always hate having to choose just one! Lets see, I really love Bratwurst, chili, and beans and wennies. I suppose I don’t love anything more than my late Great-grandmother’s lasagna and chicken soup receipes.

Instrument: I play several including piano, guitar, didge, and clarinet. However, I haven’t been able to even touch them lately because of my mental health. I feel too nervous to even do so, because I feel that I might break them.

Sports: I used to fence, skateboard, and wrestle. I just exercise these days; my mental conditions have kind of degraded a lot of my motor skills.

Family: Mother, step-father, and our dog.

Clothing: Jeans, boots, and a hockey sweater.

How did you find this website? I was suggested it by someone who uses the great autism support website wrongplanet.com.

Job: I’m a full time student, and work part time as an Internet content writer and developer.

Plans for the future? I’m majoring in Archaeology, though I realize that these days that a college degree often is used for a field that it’s not in, so I am keeping myself open. I’m actually hoping that once I graduate, I can use my degree in my current position and open up more fields in freelance writing.

I have my Bachelors in Psychology and have found the same thing. Nowadays, many of the Social Sciences end up being more like liberal arts degrees. The irony I discovered is that it can actually be quite difficult to get into a graduate psychology program with a Bachelors in Psych.

Yipes that's rough! Actually, that sounds quite wrong to me. Not in that you're doing anything wrong I mean; its just seemingly quite disrespectful to you not to acknowledge that you have anything under your belt already!

Problem is that so many psych programs are, well, obsolete. I mean, if you're just learning about Freud class after class, no seriously competitive graduate program wants that kind of background! So it's become more of a secondary liberal arts degree for people who don't know what they want to do. Actually, more people probably get into business school with a psych bachelors. I remember we had our fair share of business double majoring or minoring in psych.

Freud? Honestly?! I was under the impression that all of Freud's theories were practically out the door! I've had therapists that refuse to use the term psychoanalysis even, for fear of being associated with Freud.

Well, most therapists nowadays don't use classic psychoanalysis but are more eclectic. They may use Psychodynamic application for some issues with their clients, but not just alone.

Hence, most therapists won't be called psychoanalysts because they're not actually psychoanalysts. :)

Yup. It's the Questions thread which seems to be floating from forum to forum. So answer as you will. And post a pic if you like.

First name: Aspie-NVLD-Hybrid

Age: 39

Location: Louisville

Hobbies and Interests: Autism Awareness & Advocacy, Yasko Protocol, Neurofeedback, Metaphysics, Shamanism, archetypes, I'm a New Ager at heart.

Reason for being here: gathering info, saying hi

Date of diagnosis (whether official or self-diagnosed): Been in denial for a number of years, but finally accepted March 2010. I have aspects of Non-Verbal Learning Disability with additional Asperger traits (intense interests, repetitive, mild stimming). For this reason I consider myself simply "On the Spectrum" since neither dx by itself is a perfect fit but parts of each explain me pretty well.

Favorite subjects: Science, Religion, history, nutrition

Year/Grade: N/A

Favorite music: Bruce Springsteen, Chet Baker

Books: The Unbearable Lightness of Being

TV shows: Mad Men

Movies:

Magazines: The Autism File (don't hate me), Creative Home

Comic books: N/A

Favorite foods: My son and I have to be GFCF (again, don't hate me..it has made a tremendous difference for both of us :D ). But you asked about favorite foods - Broccoli or cauliflower lightly steamed drizzled in flax seed oil with sea salt (I know!). I like feeling well and I just don't feel well if I eat a lot of processed foods, so I keep it simple.

Instrument: N/A

Sports: UK Basketball

Family: husband, 7 year old son (moderate autism)

Clothing: My clothing preferences are two extremes: I like conservative, Talbots like clothes where you can look at a picture of me 10 years ago or in 10 years because whatever I am wearing is never dated....and I like clothes with a slight edgy to them... by this I don't mean skimpy or revealing, I just mean black and or slightly bohemian (with something traditional thrown in to keep it tasteful)
Not a close horse though. I get the majority of my clothes second hand.

How did you find this website? I met the adminstrator at an Autism fundraiser here in Louisville last spring. She told me about the site.

Job: helping my son live his highest potential.

Plans for the future?
Starting a business. Learning EEG Neurofeedback

Any comments? Great site
